A sixteen
points charter of demands have been submitted on 21st Feb by a delegation of students of the different departments of the University
of Mumbai, Kalina Campus, along with the charter of demands of the different departments, under the banner of University Community for Democracy and Equality
(UCDE), to the university authorities. This charter has been prepared during a
two weeks long class-to-class campaign and was submitted along with the
signatures of around 1000 students in support of the charter. A delegation of students also met with Chancellor and Education Minister to raise their problems. Main demands of the students are as follows:
1.
Implement complete financial transparency.
2.
Start the remedial classes and bridge courses and take all necessary steps to
ensure its smooth functioning.
3.
Arrange for translation and publication of latest and essential study material
into Marathi and Hindi by the University Press.
4.
Earn and learn programme be made more student friendly; timely payment and
increase in the funding for the programme, inclusion of more jobs in the
programme, i.e. translation, typing, recording for visually handicapped etc.
5.
Make provisions for active functioning of Students' Grievance redressal Cell.
6.
Installation of suggestion and complaint boxes in each department.
7.
Construction of new hostels as soon as possible for which the University has
sufficient land and funds.
8.
Build a students' activity centre and till its construction, a temporary space
should be made available to all students.
9.
Construction of well equipped Gymkhana.
10.
Improve the condition of the lecture complex and other buildings as required.
11.
Library be kept open 24 hours everyday with lending facility for at least 12
hours; lending section for every department; students be allowed to borrow more
books at a time without charging extra deposit.
12.
Regular updating of the university website; notifications and circulars be
displayed on the notice boards of each department.
13.
Regarding revaluation and ATKT:
(a) Results of revaluation be declared before the
last date of application for re-examination.
(b)
Refunding of the revaluation fees if the student passes the respective paper
after revaluation.
14.
Filling up of the permanent post of teachers in various departments.
15.
Provision of a system of teachers’ assessment by the students.
16.
V.C., Pro V. C. and Resistrar should be accessible for the students of the
Kalina campus in the campus itself.
