अहमदनगर में बर्बर दलित-विरोधी अत्याचार के ख़ि‍लाफ़ आवाज़ उठाओ!

दलित मुक्ति की महान परियोजना को अस्मितावाद और प्रतीकवाद के गड्ढे से बाहर निकालो!

अहमदनगर में 21 अक्टूबर को एक दलित परिवार के तीन लोगों की बेरहमी से हत्या और उसके बाद में उनके टुकड़े–टुकड़े करके कुएँ में फ़ेंक दिये जाने के काण्ड ने एक बार फिर महाराष्ट्र की मेहनतकश आबादी को झकझोर कर रख दिया है। तमाम दलितवादी चुनावी पार्टियाँ अपने संकीर्ण हितों के लिए इस घटना को भी एक “सुनहरे अवसर” के तौर पर देख रही हैं और दलितों के हित के नाम पर इसका पूरा फायदा उठाने की कवायद में लग गयी हैं। वहीं पूँजीवादी मीडिया हर बार की तरह इस बार भी या तो इस घटना पर पर्दा डालने का काम कर रहा है या फिर इस घटना को महज़ दो परिवारों के बीच आपसी रंजिश का नाम देकर दलितों पर हो रहे अत्याचारों को ढँकने का प्रयास कर रहा है। लेकिन मेहनतकश दलित आबादी जानती है कि चाहे मसला कुछ भी हो हर विवाद में अन्त में दलितों को ही इन बर्बर अत्याचारों का शिकार होना पड़ता है। ऐसा क्यों होता है कि हमेशा ग़रीब दलितों को ही इन बर्बर काण्डों का निशाना बनाया जाता है? हमेशा सामाजिक और आर्थिक दृष्टि से कमज़ोर आबादी को ही ये ज़ुल्म क्यों सहने पड़ते हैं?

लोकसभा निवडणूक 2014 - होय, आपल्याला निवड करायची आहे, परंतु पर्याय कोणते आहेत

सोबत्यांनो!

१६वी लोकसभा निवडणूक आपल्यासमोर आहे. आपल्याला पुन्हा एकदा निवड करायची आहे. परंतु निवडण्यासाठी काय आहे खोटी आश्वासने आणि शिवीगाळ यांच्या घाणेरड्या धुरळ्याखाली खरे मुद्दे दडपले गेले आहेत. जगातील सर्वाधिक कुपोषितांच्या, अशिक्षितांच्या आणि बेरोजगारांच्या भारत देशाच्या ६६ वर्षांच्या इतिहासातील सर्वाधिक महागड्या, आणि जगातील दुसन्‍या सर्वात जास्त महागड्या निवडणुकीत (३० हजार कोटी) कुपोषण, बेरोजगारी, भूकबळी हे मुद्दे नाहीत! उलट, “भारत निर्माण” आणि देशाच्या “विकासा” साठी निवड करण्याचे आवाहन केले जात आहे! जागतिक भांडवली व्यवस्था गंभीर होत जाणान्‍या आर्थिक संकटात सापडली आहे आणि त्याचा प्रभाव भारतातील टाटा, बिर्ला, अंबानी यांसारख्या भांडवलदारांवरही दिसू लागला आहे. अशा वेळी, भारतातील भांडवलदार वर्गदेखील निवडणुकांमध्ये आपली सेवा करणान्‍या पक्षांमधून निवड करतो आहे. भांडवली लोकतंत्र वास्तवात धनतंत्र असते, हे क्वचितच या अगोदरच्या कुठल्याही निवडणुकीत एवढ्या नग्न रूपात समोर आले असावे. रस्तोरस्तीचे पोस्टर, गल्लीबोळात नावाची जाहिरात करणारी पत्रके आणि प्रचंड धुमधडाक्यात सुरू असलेले पक्षबदल, लाचखोरी, मिडिया विकत घेण्याचे प्रकार या निवडणुकीत सगळे रेकॉर्ड तोडत आहेत. जेथे भाजप, काँग्रेस व तमाम प्रादेशिक पक्ष सिनेमातील तार्यांपासून खूनी-बलात्कारी, तस्कर, डाकूंचे सत्कार समारोह आयोजित करीत आहेत, तेथे आम आदमी पार्टीचे एनजीओबाज “नवे स्वातंत्र्य”, “पूर्ण स्वराज्य” यांसारख्या भ्रामक घोषणांच्या आडून भांडवलदारांची चोरदरवाजातून सेवा करण्याची तयारी करीत आहेत; भाकपा, माकपा, भाकपा (माले) यांसारखे संसदीय वामपंथी पोपट नेहमीप्रमाणे ‘लाल’ मिर्ची खाऊन संसदीय विरोधाच्या नाटकाच्या नव्या फेरीची तयारी करीत आहेत. उदित राज आणि रामदास आठवलेंसारखे स्वयंभू दलित तारणहार सर्वाधिक सवर्णवादी पार्टी भाजपच्या कुशीत शिरून कष्टकरी दलितांशी द्रोह करीत आहेत. अशा वेळी आपल्यासमोर निवडण्यासाठी आहेच काय, असा प्रश्न उभा ठाकतो

निवडायचे कोणाला- सापनाथ, नागनाथ की बिच्छूप्रसादला

देशातील भांडवली लोकशाही आज पतनाच्या अशा टप्पापर्यंत येऊन पोहोचली आहे जेथे या व्यवस्थेच्या चौकटीत लहानसहान सुधारांसाठीदेखील सामान्य जनतेसमोर कोणताच पर्याय शिल्लक नाही. आता तर लुटारूंच्या कोणत्या टोळीला झेलायचे त्याचीच निवड या निवडणुकीत जनतेला करायची आहे! खुर्चीवर बसून देशीविदेशी भांडवलदारांची सेवा कोण करणार; कष्टकरी जनतेला लुबाडण्यासाठी कोण तर्हेतर्हेचे कायदे बनविणार; कष्टकर्यांचा आवाज दडपण्यासाठी कोण दमनाचा वरवंटा चालविणार याचा निर्णय करण्यासाठीच निवडणुका लढविणान्‍या पक्षांदरम्यान लढाई होऊ घातली आहे. दहा वर्षांपासून सत्तेत असलेल्या काँग्रेसला स्वाभाविकपणे उदारीकरण-खाजगीकरणाच्या धोरणामुळे जनतेवर कोसळणान्‍या संकटांचे नुकसान सहन करावे लागत आहे. उरलीसुरली कसर रेकॉर्डतोड घोटाळ्यांनी भरून काढली आहे. देशात उदारीकरण-खाजगीकरणाच्या धोरणाचा श्रीगणेशा करणान्‍या काँग्रेसला निवडणुक जवळ येताच लोकांना भुरळ पाडणान्‍या योजनांचा पेटारा उघडून लोकांना पुन्हा एकवार गुंडाळण्यात यशस्वी होण्याची उमेद होती. परंतु बिकट आर्थिक संकटाने तीचे हात असे काही जखडून टाकले आहेत की तुरळक चमकदार अश्वासने देण्यापलीकडे ती काहीही करू शकत नाही. तिच्या ‘भारत निर्माण’च्या घोषणेतील हवा निघून गेली आहे.

लोकसभा चुनाव-2014 - हाँ, हमें चुनना तो है! लेकिन किन विकल्पों के बीच?

साथियो!

16वें लोकसभा चुनाव सिर पर हैं। हमें फिर चुनने के लिए कहा जा रहा है। लेकिन चुनने के लिये क्या है? झूठे आश्वासनों और गाली-गलौच की गन्दी धूल के नीचे असली मुद्दे दब चुके हैं। दुनिया के सबसे अधिक कुपोषितों, अशिक्षितों व बेरोज़गारों के देश भारत के 66 साल के इतिहास में सबसे महँगे और दुनिया के दूसरे सबसे महँगे चुनाव (30 हज़ार करोड़) में कुपोषण, बेरोज़गारी या भुखमरी मुद्दा नहीं है! बल्कि “भारत निर्माण” और देश के “विकास” के लिए चुनाव करने की दुहाई दी जा रही है! विश्व पूँजीवादी व्यवस्था गहराते आर्थिक संकट तले कराह रही है और इसका असर भारत के टाटा, बिड़ला, अम्बानी-सरीखे पूँजीपतियों पर भी दिख रहा है। ऐसे में, भारत का पूँजीपति वर्ग भी चुनाव में अपनी सेवा करने वाली चुनावबाज़ पार्टियों के बीच चुन रहा है। पूँजीवादी जनतंत्र वास्तव में एक धनतंत्र होता है, यह शायद ही इससे पहले किसी चुनाव इतने नंगे रूप में दिखा हो। सड़कों पर पोस्टरों, गली-नुक्कड़ों में नाम चमकाने वाले पर्चों और तमाम शोर-शराबे के साथ जमकर दलबदली, घूसखोरी, मीडिया की ख़रीदारी इस बार के चुनाव में सारे रिकार्ड तोड़ रही है। जहाँ भाजपा-कांग्रेस व तमाम क्षेत्रीय दल सिनेमा के भाँड-भड़क्कों से लेकर हत्यारों-बलात्कारियों-तस्करों-डकैतों के सत्कार समारोह आयोजित करा रहे हैं, तो वहीं आम आदमी पार्टी के एनजीओ-बाज़ “नयी आज़ादी”, “पूर्ण स्वराज” जैसे भ्रामक नारों की आड़ में पूँजीपतियों की चोर-दरवाज़े से सेवा करने की तैयारी कर रही है; भाकपा-माकपा-भाकपा(माले) जैसे संसदीय वामपंथी तोते हमेशा की तरह ‘लाल’ मिर्च खाकर संसदीय विरोध की नौटंकी के नये राउण्ड की तैयारी कर रहे हैं। उदित राज व रामदास आठवले जैसे स्वयंभू दलित मसीहा सर्वाधिक सवर्णवादी पार्टी भाजपा की गोद में बैठ कर मेहनतकश दलितों के साथ ग़द्दारी कर रहे हैं। ऐसे में प्रश्न यह खड़ा होता है कि हमारे पास चुनने के लिए क्या है?

किसे चुनें-सांपनाथ, नागनाथ या बिच्छुप्रसाद को?

शहीद भगतसिंह, राजगुरु, सुखदेव के 84वें शहादत दिवस के अवसर पर

अमर शहीदों का पैगाम! जारी रखना है संग्राम!!

साथियो! शहीदे-आज़म भगतसिंह के साथी भगवती चरण वोहरा ने कहा था, ‘’खुराक जिस पर आज़ादी का पौधा पलता है, वह है शहीदों का ख़ून’’। ये शब्द भगतसिंह, राजगुरु, सुखदेव, चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद, रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल, अशफाक उल्ला खान आदि ने सच कर दिखाये। ऐसे भी बहुत से नौजवान थे जिनके नाम इतिहास के पन्नों पर दर्ज नहीं हैं। 23 मार्च, 2014 को भगतसिंह, राजगुरु, सुखदेव की शहादत को 83 वर्ष पूरे हो जायेंगे। ये नौजवान देश की उस क्रान्तिचेतना के प्रतीक थे जिसमें क्रन्तिकारी भावना के साथ वैज्ञानिक नज़रिया एवं तार्किकता भी थी। भगतसिंह ने कहा था- ‘‘क्रान्ति से हमारा क्या आशय है, यह स्पष्ट है ---- भारत में हम भारतीय श्रमिकों के शासन से कम कुछ नहीं चाहते, भारतीय श्रमिकों को - भारत में साम्राज्यवादियों और उनके मददगारों को हटाकर जो कि उसी आर्थिक व्यवस्था के पैरोकार हैं, जिसकी जड़ें शोषण पर आधारित हैं - आगे आना है। हम गोरी बुराई की जगह काली बुराई को लाकर कष्ट नहीं उठाना चाहते’’। पूँजीवादी (कांग्रेसी) नेतृत्व की समझौतापरस्ती के बारे में उनका स्पष्ट मानना था कि इससे मेहनतकश अवाम को कुछ भी नहीं हासिल होगा। अन्त में हुआ यही कि देश के पूँजीवादी नेतृत्व ने जनसंघर्षों को ढाल बनाकर समझौते के द्वारा ही शासन-सत्ता हथिया ली। भगतसिंह और उनके साथियों का सपना पूरा नहीं हो सका।

आज का भारत! आँसुओं के समुद्र में ऐयाशी की मीनारें!

15 अगस्त 1947 को हमें अंग्रेजी ग़ुलामी से तो आज़ादी मिली किन्तु साथ ही एक पीड़ादायी दौर की भी शुरुआत हुई। जनता को भरमाने के लिए नेहरू द्वारा समाजवाद का गुब्बारा फुलाया गया जो 1990 आते-आते फुस्स हो गया। जैसे-जैसे देश का पूँजीपति वर्ग शोषण और लूट-खसोट के बल पर अपने पैरों पर खड़ा होता गया वैसे-वैसे ही हमारे पुरखों की मेहनत और खून-पसीने के दम पर खड़ा हुआ पब्लिक सेक्टर कौड़ियों के भाव पूँजीपतियों को सौंप दिया गया। पिछले 66 सालों में देश के सरमायेदारों ने जनता को जी भरकर निचोड़ा है। ‘फोर्ब्स’ पत्रिका द्वारा जारी 61 देशों की अरबपतियों की सूची में भारत चौथे स्थान पर है। भारत में पिछले साल की तुलना में अरबपतियों की संख्या 46 से बढ़कर 55 हो गयी है। भारत के 100 सबसे अमीर लोगों की कुल सम्पत्ति पूरे देश के कुल राष्ट्रीय उत्पादन के एक चौथाई से भी अधिक है। ‘‘देश’’ की इस ‘‘तरक्की’’ के बाद अब आम जनता का भी हाल देख लिया जाये। ‘युनाइटेड नेशन्स डेवलपमेन्ट प्रोग्राम’ के मानवीय विकास सूचकांक की 146 देशों की सूची में भारत 129वें स्थान पर है। एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार 45 करोड़ भारतीय ग़रीबी रेखा के नीचे जी रहे हैं। एक सरकारी रिपोर्ट के ही अनुसार देश की लगभग 84 करोड़ आबादी 20 रुपये से भी कम पर जीने के लिए मजबूर है। देश में 46 फ़ीसदी बच्चे कुपोषण और लगभग 50 फ़ीसदी स्त्रियाँ ख़ून की कमी का शिकार हैं। ‘वैश्विक भूख सूचकांक’ की 88 देशों की सूची में भारत 73वें स्थान पर है जो पिछले साल से 6 स्थान नीचे है। जबकि सरकारी गोदामों में लाखों टन अनाज सड़ जाता है। प्रचुर प्राकृतिक संसाधन और शस्य-श्यामला धरती होने के बावजूद करीब 28 करोड़ लोग बेरोज़गार हैं जिनमें पढ़े-लिखे नौजवानों की भी भारी संख्या है। शिक्षा व्यवस्था ऐसी है कि 12वीं करने वालों में से केवल 7 प्रतिशत ही उच्च शिक्षा तक पहुंच पाते हैं। देश के दलितों का करीब 90 फीसदी आज भी खेतिहर या औद्योगिक मज़दूरों के रूप में काम कर रहा है और अकथनीय शोषण और अपमान झेल रहा है। आज भी लोग उन बीमारियों से दम तोड़ देते हैं जिनका इलाज सैकड़ों साल पहले ढूँढा जा चुका है। देश की कुल मज़दूर आबादी का करीब 93 फ़ीसदी असंगठित क्षेत्र में आता है। इनके लिए श्रम कानूनों का ज्यादा मतलब नहीं है, आये दिन होने वाली दुर्घटनाओं और बिना किसी कानूनी सुरक्षा के बीच यह आबादी ग़ुलामों जैसी स्थितियों में काम करने के लिए मजबूर है। खेत मज़दूर आबादी के हालात तो और भी बुरे हैं। पिछले 12 सालों में देश में 2 लाख से अधिक ग़रीब किसान आत्महत्या कर चुके हैं। देश की बदहाली के आंकड़े कहां तक गिनायें। देश के महाशक्ति बनने और विकासमान होने के दावे करने वाले हमारे ‘‘जनप्रतिनिधियों’’ को शर्म भी नहीं आती। क्या यही था हमारे शहीदों का ख़ुशहाल भारत का सपना?

दोस्तो, असल में मुनाफ़े की अन्धी दौड़ में लगी यह पूँजीवादी व्यवस्था देश को गरीबी, भुखमरी, बेरोज़गारी, कुपोषण आदि ही दे सकती है। आज तमाम चुनावी धन्धेबाजों, नेताओं-नौकरशाहों का पूंजीपरस्त चेहरा एकदम नंगा हो चुका है। चुनाव में चुनने के लिए हमारे पास केवल सांपनाथ और नागनाथ का ही विकल्प होता है। इतने बडे़-बड़े चुनाव क्षेत्रों में चुने जाने के लिए भागीदारी करना आम आदमी के बूते से बाहर की बात है। ‘चुना’ वही जाता है जो धनबल-बाहुबल का उत्तम इस्तेमाल करता है! यही कारण है कि लगभग 300 सांसद करोड़पति हैं और लोकसभा में बहुत से ऐसे सांसद है जिन पर भारतीय कानून के तहत आपराधिक मामले दर्ज हैं। इस बार तो केजरीवाल जैसे एनजीओबाज़-धन्धेबाज़ भी पूंजीपतियों का मैनेजर बनने की लाइन में खड़े हैं। ये नये चुनावी मदारी बस भ्रम फैलाने का ही काम कर रहे हैं। सिर्फ कानूनी भ्रष्टाचार को दूर करने से कुछ नहीं होगा असली सवाल मौजूदा पूंजीवादी व्यवस्था के ख़ात्मे का है। वर्तमान समय में देश के हालात ख़तरनाक परिस्थितियों की तरफ बढ़ रहे हैं। मोदी जैसे फ़ासीवादी दंगों की आग भड़काकर सत्ता सुख भोगने का ख़्वाब देख रहे हैं। आर-एस-एस-, शिवसेना, मनसे जैसे फ़ासीवादी गिरोह अल्पसंख्यकों पर हावी होने की ताक में रहते हैं। प्रतिक्रियास्वरूप अल्पसंख्यक कट्टरता भी अपने पांव पसार रही है। कांग्रेस हमेशा की तरह दोनों तरफ तुष्टिकरण के पत्ते फेंक रही है। देश में जाति-धर्म-क्षेत्र और आरक्षण के नाम पर राजनीतिक रोटियाँ सेंकी जा रही हैं। काँग्रेस-भाजपा से लेकर तमाम क्षेत्रीय दल आज की गन्दी चुनावी कुत्ताघसीटी में लगे हैं। मुजफ्फरनगर के दंगों को हुए अभी अधिक समय नहीं हुआ है जब सैकड़ों बेगुनाह मारे गये थे। हुक्मरान भविष्य में उठने वाले व्यापक जनान्दोलनों से भयभीत हैं, इसीलिए वे चाहते हैं कि जनता पूंजीवादी व्यवस्था से लड़ने की बजाय आपस में ही लड़ मरे। देश की मेहनतकश जनता को पूँजीपतियों की इन साजिशों को नाकाम करना होगा। भगतसिंह की यह बात आज भी प्रासांगिक है – ‘‘लोंगों को आपस में लड़ने से रोकने के लिए वर्ग चेतना की ज़रूरत है। ग़रीब मेहनतकशों व किसानों को स्पष्ट समझा देना चाहिए कि तुम्हारे असली दुश्मन पूंजीपति हैं इसलिए तुम्हें इनके हथकण्डों से बचकर रहना चाहिए ---तुम्हारी भलाई इसी में है कि तुम धर्म, रंग, नस्ल, और राष्ट्रीयता व देश के भेदभाव मिटाकर एकजुट हो जाओ---’’।

तो फिर आज क्या किया जाय?

साथियो, परम्परा कभी भी उंगली पकड़ाकर मंजिल तक नहीं पहुंचाती बल्कि वह रास्ता दिखाती है। निश्चित तौर पर भगतसिंह और उनकी क्रान्तिकारी धारा के विचार हमारे लिए एक प्रकाशस्तम्भ के समान हैं। उनका सपना एक ऐसे समाज का था जिसमें उत्पादन के तमाम साधनों पर उत्पादक वर्गों का कब्ज़ा हो और इंसानों के द्वारा इंसानों का शोषण असम्भव हो जाय। आज शहीदों को हमारी सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि यही हो सकती है कि हम उनके विचारों को जन-जन तक पहुँचा दें, भगतसिंह ने ही कहा था कि बम-पिस्तौल की दुस्साहसवादी राजनीति से कुछ नहीं बदलता बल्कि ‘क्रान्ति की तलवार विचारों की सान पर तेज़ होती है’। आज देश की मेहनतकश आबादी को संगठनबद्ध किए जाने की ज़रूरत है ताकि सच्चे मायने में मेहनतकशों का लोकस्वराज्य कायम हो। चुनावी नौटंकी, किसी भी किस्म की सरकारी योजना और एन-जी-ओ- सुधारवाद से इस देश का भला नहीं होने वाला! 67 साल इस बात को समझने के लिए बहुत होते हैं। आज दुनिया के तमाम हिस्सों में लोग पूंजीवादी व्यवस्था के खिलाफ़ सड़कों पर उतर रहे हैं। लेकिन इन स्वतःस्फूर्त बग़ावतों के सामने आज कोई क्रान्तिकारी विकल्प मौजूद नहीं है। हमारे देश में भी स्थितियाँ तेज़ी से विस्फोटक होने की ओर बढ़ रही हैं। महँगाई और बेरोज़गारी से कोई भी सरकार निजात नहीं दिला सकती क्योंकि पूँजीवादी व्यवस्था के दायरों के भीतर यह सम्भव ही नहीं है। ऐसे में एक ओर हमें एक समूची पूँजीवादी व्यवस्था के विकल्प को पेश करने की ज़रूरत है और साथ ही इस विकल्प को अमली जामा पहनाने के लिए मज़दूरों और आम मेहनतकश आबादी की एक नयी इंक़लाबी पार्टी की आवश्यकता है। देश के संवेदनशील और साहसी युवाओं के सामने यह यक्ष प्रश्न खड़ा है कि क्या वे सिर्फ कैरियर बनाने की अन्धी चूहा दौड़ में अपनी सारी रचनात्मकता को होम कर देंगे, या फिर इस देश को शहीदों के सपनों के भारत में तब्दील करने के लिए आगे आएँगे। युनिवर्सिटी कम्युनिटी फॉर डेमोक्रेसी एण्ड इक्वॉलिटी ऐसे सभी युवाओं का आह्वान करता है - युवा साथियो! जड़ता तोड़ो आगे आओ! शोषणमुक्त समाज बनाओ!!

BMS sem V students have urged the VC to intervene into the issue of severe discrepancies in the result Financial Management paper

The BMS (Bachelor of Management studies) students, victims of a “shockingly poor” result have now decided to approach the VC once again. The result on 7th Feb had proved to be a nightmare for a large number of students of Bachelor of Business management with more than 50 percent students out of total of around 12000 students failing; most of them in Financial Management paper with marks in “single digits”. Out of 109 students in Burhani college, 60 students have failed, out of which 53 have not cleared the FM paper. 10 students had less than 10 marks, and one even had zero. Similar is the case with other colleges too and the result varies from 20 to 50 per cent. Students who have more than 70 per cent overall percentage have also fallen prey to this anomaly.

Even professors accept the fact that there was ambiguity in the model answers which could be a reason for the miserable failing of such a big number of students. There are cases where students have been marked absent despite having answered the paper.

The students had written a letter to the University officials bringing to their notice this unusual result and urging them to look into the matter. Controller of Examination Padma Deshmukh had asked the students to apply for revaluation and had asked the computer department to get the paperwise passing rate and assured to fix the anomaly if any. But in practice, it takes a month to get the photocopy and then the students can apply for revaluation. And the reexamination is scheduled to be held on 9^th of April. Secondly, according to the existing rule of revaluation, the students who have scored less than 40 per cent of minimum passing marks can not apply for revaluation. So now the students have decided to submit a letter with signature of BMS students from various colleges urging the VC to intervene in this matter and first of all allow all those who are willing to apply for revaluation, and secondly to order an re assessment of the papers because the suspected anomaly would badly affect the future of a large number of students.

Charter of Demands of the Students of Mumbai University

A sixteen points charter of demands have been submitted on 21st Feb by a delegation of students of the different departments of the University of Mumbai, Kalina Campus, along with the charter of demands of the different departments, under the banner of University Community for Democracy and Equality (UCDE), to the university authorities. This charter has been prepared during a two weeks long class-to-class campaign and was submitted along with the signatures of around 1000 students in support of the charter. A delegation of students also met with Chancellor and Education Minister to raise their problems. Main demands of the students are as follows:

1. Implement complete financial transparency.

2. Start the remedial classes and bridge courses and take all necessary steps to ensure its smooth functioning.

3. Arrange for translation and publication of latest and essential study material into Marathi and Hindi by the University Press.

4. Earn and learn programme be made more student friendly; timely payment and increase in the funding for the programme, inclusion of more jobs in the programme, i.e. translation, typing, recording for visually handicapped etc.

5. Make provisions for active functioning of Students' Grievance redressal Cell.

6. Installation of suggestion and complaint boxes in each department.

7. Construction of new hostels as soon as possible for which the University has sufficient land and funds.

8. Build a students' activity centre and till its construction, a temporary space should be made available to all students.

9. Construction of well equipped Gymkhana.

10. Improve the condition of the lecture complex and other buildings as required.

11. Library be kept open 24 hours everyday with lending facility for at least 12 hours; lending section for every department; students be allowed to borrow more books at a time without charging extra deposit.

12. Regular updating of the university website; notifications and circulars be displayed on the notice boards of each department.

13. Regarding revaluation and ATKT:

(a) Results of revaluation be declared before the last date of application for re-examination.

(b) Refunding of the revaluation fees if the student passes the respective paper after revaluation.

14. Filling up of the permanent post of teachers in various departments.

15. Provision of a system of teachers’ assessment by the students.

16. V.C., Pro V. C. and Resistrar should be accessible for the students of the Kalina campus in the campus itself.

UCDE Pamphlet Against Patriarchal Ruling Class

Maharashtra State Women's Commission member and NCP leader Ms. Asha Mirje has claimed that the women themselves are responsible for increasing incidents of rape and other anti-women crimes! She asked that whether it was necessary for Nirbhaya (the brave victim of 16 December Delhi Gangrape) to watch a movie at 11 PM? She has pinned the blame for recent rape cases on the victims themselves. Ms. Mirje said that the women should not dress "provocatively" (?!), they should mind their company(?!), should not behave in an "inviting" (?!) way! Such misogynist remarks from a member of Maharashtra State Women's Commission and a prominent NCP leader are not shocking indeed! This only shows the patriarchal and misogynist psyche of those sitting in the ruling establishment, irrespective of the party to which they belong. This also shows that even women can become carrier of patriarchal values.

A Memorable Victory for Students' Movement!

Dear Friends,

The suspension of Prof. Neeraj Hatekar has finally been revoked after 13 days of students' protests. On January 4, Prof. Hatekar had been suspended in an extremely undemocratic fashion by the MU authorities for raising questions about our welfare, the functioning of the university and the irregularities going on in the university. On January 6, on the call of the UCDE, a students' protest was organized demanding the revocation of Prof. Hatekar's unjust suspension. On January 8, again, a protest was organized which was attended by approximately 400 students. When the MU authorities continued to show their callous attitude to the demands raised by the students, the students again organized Silent Protest on January 12. After that, on the call of the UCDE, students of MU held a general body meeting on January 15; it was decided in the GBM that on January 20, the students will hold a One-day Hunger Strike against the tyranny of MU authorities. Finally, on January 19, the MU authorities yielded to the demands of the students and consequently revoked the suspension of Prof. Neeraj Hatekar.

Friends, this is a victory of our collective strength and organization. The protests organized by us have been an embarrassment for the MU authorities, as the whole world was watching the simmering discontent among the MU students. The UCDE has always believed that the issue of Prof. Hatekar was not simply an issue of suspension of a teacher; it was an issue of Campus Democracy. Therefore, the revocation of suspension is a victory for Campus Democracy. This also shows that we must not stop here and continue our fight to expand the democratic space within the campus. However, at this moment, we must also convey the message of this victory among all our student friends of the campus. So, the UCDE calls upon all students, teachers and karamcharis to join a VICTORY MARCH on January 20 at 9 AM in the Kalina Campus.
